You feel that nip in the air and can’t wait to cozy up on the couch with a cup hot cocoa and the warmth of a fire only, oh no! You go to start your propane fireplace for the first time since last winter, only to realize it isn't working!

Rest easy. Follow these quick troubleshooting tips from Phillips Energy to be warm and cozy in just minutes.

Don’t forget about the logs

Clean the ceramic logs in your fireplace as they’ve likely built up dust since they were last used. If you remove the logs, return them just as you found them to ensure they are in the correct place. To make sure you don’t forget their placement, snap a photo of the logs before you remove any of them.

Are your batteries dead?

If it has been a year since you last used your fireplace, your batteries might have corroded. Most of us remember to check the batteries in the remote, but don’t remember to change the batteries in the receiver. Be sure the fireplace and pilot are off before doing so and let the unit is cool. Locate the battery holder under or beside the firebox, near the controls. Replace the batteries with new ones, typically four AA alkaline batteries, and return the holder to the original position. If your receiver beeps three seconds at rapid fire, that is a sign it’s time to replace the batteries. Prefer a certified technician to check it all? Call us.

Review the directions

Ideally, have your owner’s manual handy to review the steps and safety checklist before starting the season’s first fire.

Check your supply

Is your propane tank full? Make sure you check the level of your tank to ensure you have plenty of propane to operate your system. If you haven’t already, sign up for our automatic delivery service, which allows Phillips Energy software to monitor your system to prevent your propane from running dry. If you need propane, we ask that you allow three to five days for delivery.
