Phillips Energy Kicks Off Annual Alzheimer’s Disease Efforts with Over $6,700 Fundraiser
Phillips Energy kicked off its annual efforts to help the Alzheimer’s Association of the Middle Peninsula with a summer fundraiser that brought in over $6,700 for the cause.
Alzheimer’s Disease affects 50 million people worldwide. About 6.5 million people in the US.
“This disease impacts entire families and we’ve dedicated ourselves to helping find a cure,” said Elizabeth McCormick, Vice President for Phillips Energy. “Everything we do is to honor those who have died from this terrible disease and to show our support for the caregivers and families affected by it. We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of this community and our customers.”
Alzheimer’s Disease hits close to home for McCormick and her brother, John Phillips, President of Phillips Energy. Their grandfather and company founder, L. Frank Phillips Sr., died from the disease as did their father, L. Frank Phillips Jr., and Crystal Allmond Phillips, their grandmother.
The summer fundraiser kicked off on Thursday, June 20, 2024 – the longest day of the year – with Phillips Energy donating 10% of all sales at its public gas station to the Alzheimer’s Association. That evening, a community awareness event was hosted by the Gloucester Brewing Company (who donated a portion of the proceeds from the night) featuring Creekside Café and Market’s food truck, live music by Edison and Company and the local committee of volunteers working to put on the Walk to End Alzheimer’s that will take place on Main Street October 5, 2024.
As the final part of the fundraising event, Phillips Energy completed a summer raffle – the most successful it has ever hosted. The winner received a Blackstone grill, family day passes and boat ramp access to Camp Cardinal, gift certificates to Duke’s Deli, Juan’s, Olivia’s, Scoot’s, YROC and a peanut sampling from Whitley’s Peanuts.
All told, the latest fundraiser brings Phillips Energy’s total dollars raised this year to over $14,000.
Since Phillips Energy has started fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association, it’s donated over $150,000 to the cause.
“Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia and memory loss in aging adults,” McCormick said. “Not to mention, caregivers are often needed to provide round-the-clock support to families with a loved one impacted by the disease. We won’t stop until we find a cure.”
