Phillips Energy Will Serve As Presenting Team Sponsor for 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Phillips Energy will serve as the Presenting Team Sponsor for the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s — Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck that will be held on Oct. 1.
Fundraising has already begun to reach the goal of $20,000 for the company’s signature charity, Alzheimer’s disease, which affects an estimated 50 million people worldwide and hits close to home for John Phillips and Elizabeth McCormick. Their grandfather and company founder, L. Frank Phillips Sr., died from the disease as did their father, L. Frank Phillips Jr., and Crystal Allmond Phillips, their grandmother.
Philllps Energy celebrated its 75th anniversary in business in 2021 as upper Tidewater’s major provider of propane, heating, oil and other fuels. The company surpassed $100,000 in total giving last year over the six years it has supported the Alzheimer’s Association.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia and memory loss in aging adults. Funds from the walk support research for a cure and caregivers who are often needed to provide round-the-clock support to families with a loved one impacted by the disease.
“Caregivers are selfless angels for families who want to keep their loved ones in their place of residence,” said Elizabeth McCormick. “My mother, with the help of amazing nurses, was able to be that caregiver for my father, but everyone doesn’t have a family member or the resources to be able to do that. We want to show our gratitude for the caregivers who provide critical support during an overwhelming time.”
As Presenting Team Sponsor, Phillips Energy has already raised $3,875 for the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Register for the event online or print out paper registration and donation forms. Participants can register as individuals, join an existing team (like Phillips Energy’s team) or start their own team. The Walk will start and end at Botetourt Elementary School in downtown Gloucester.
Volunteers are needed on the Gloucester Walk Planning Committee. Anyone wanting to volunteer can fill out the online form or contact Coordinator Madison Wilkins at mwilkins@alz.org or by calling 804-965-9977.
